FUNCTION:

The Youth Pastor at the Zion Evangelical Missionary Church (ZEMC) will serve as a team member with primary ministry to youth. The youth ministries of ZEMC place primary emphasis on the importance of youth functioning as active members of the body. Therefore, the Youth Pastor will have a vision to see fully surrendered disciples who are being transformed from the inside out and reflect the Light of Jesus, bringing hope to all they come in contact with.

The Youth Pastor will join the Pastoral Team to oversee and develop key ministry areas that relate to the needs of teens and young adults at Zion Church and in the community of Didsbury and area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Zion Youth

It will be the primary role of the Youth Pastor to work closely with the Lead Pastor, pastoral staff and key lay leaders to develop and oversee a variety of ministries to enhance the spiritual growth and outreach to youth of ZEMC and surrounding community.

1.1 Outreach/Evangelism: Develop and implement strategies to reach youth in and around Didsbury with the message of Jesus. Promote and facilitate opportunities for students to reach their peers for Christ which may include events and/or small group strategies.

1.2 Growth/Discipleship: Ensure that youth are being discipled and are given opportunities to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Develop a strategically effective program that seeks to help students experience transformational growth in their faith.

1.3 Equipping: Equip youth to live out their faith locally and globally by involving them in ministry opportunities.

2. Leadership Team

2.1 Develop a team of youth leaders who will work effectively to establish and implement an overall program and ministry and who will understand and commit themselves to the value of mentoring teens.

2.2 Represent Youth Ministries at meetings of the ZEMC Ministry Team.

3. Families

3.1 Develop support and education opportunities that seek to equip and encourage parents of teens and foster community and support networks.

3.2 Interact, inform, and engage parents of teens as part of the youth ministry focus.

4. Pastoral Care

Be available to counsel and support teens and/or families and/or direct them to appropriate avenues of support.

5. Networking

Network with other youth workers in the area as well as nationally in the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada for encouragement, support and sharing of ideas and resources.

6. Administration

6.1 Organize youth ministry volunteers, programming, and calendar.

6.2 The Youth Pastor will participate in regular staff meetings as a member of the pastoral team.

6.3 The Youth Pastor will attend occasional meetings and special events of the Board of Directors (Board).

7. Community Involvement

The Youth Pastor will be encouraged to be involved in the community as part of their ministry. The nature of the involvement will be determined in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

8. Confidentiality

Be knowledgeable of the content and related responsibilities in the following policies:

a. Confidentiality Policy

b. Collection and Use of Information Policy

c. Plan to Protect Policy

d. Conflict of Interest Policy

9. Other Duties

9.1 The Youth Pastor is required to submit an annual report to the Annual Meeting.

9.2 Given the nature of pastoral ministry, the Youth Pastor, like all staff, will accept various tasks as they arise, always in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

10. Time Requirements

This is a full-time, permanent position. There are expectations that there will be some evenings and weekends depending on events and plans. There is flexibility in scheduling as the schedule is dynamic but this is done in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Youth Pastor is accountable to the Lead Pastor. An annual evaluation will be conducted by the Lead Pastor.

ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Close walk with God: a person of prayer who displays a growing spiritual life and devotion to Christ.

2. Strong identification with the mission, vision and core values of ZEMC and able to be Credentialed in the EMCC.

3. Understanding of current youth culture, able to relate to and encourage youth

4. Proven organizational ability

5. Definite calling to assist in the spiritual growth of youth through a visible gift of teaching and a vision for a strong teaching ministry.

6. Sensitive to all age groups in a multi-generational setting.

7. Leader of leaders with a vision for developing a leadership team comprising of both youth and adult volunteers.

8. Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

9. If married, a spouse who is supportive while able to pursue ministry based on their gifting.

10. Careful to guard commitments to spouse and family.

11. Bible school degree. (We are willing to help with further courses if needed)
